I have been helping out the King's College London
Law Society this year, learning the procedures in working with the committee. I look forward to continue helping it next year, so I am running for the position of Communications Officer. With a full understanding of its website, membership database, and the stakeholders involved, I hope to expand upon the efforts made by this year's committee and literally move on to the next level.
Technology has improved social functioning and has certainly brought society to its current state, especially legally, and therefore no doubt exists that I will be able to apply technology further than has been done previously to improve not only the communications and the efficiency of the committee, but the society overall and King's College London's reputation in law, giving benefit to every student interested in a legal career or otherwise.
Next year, I intend to do the following:
- Complete the implementation road map started by previous Communications Officers: membership listing, registration, and administrative panels; events listing, registration, and payment whether for vocational, debating & mooting, social, or sports events; and guidance on how to access all information resources about various firms, whether legal or consulting
- Implement advanced profile functionality, allowing each member of the Law Society the ability to write a paragraph on their opinion of how best to excel in studies and succeed in post-study life
- Upgrade the website software to include information assurance and security mechanisms, ensuring data integrity and retention, beneficial for the Law Society Treasurer for accounting procedures, and beneficial for the Law Society Secretary and Administration Officer in dealing with membership verification, leading the way to secure online elections for future Law Society committees
- Provide relevant committee members live space on the website to make announcements
- Increase social networking functionality via sharing of information from the website onto Facebook and Twitter
- Develop tools to assist each officer in their efforts
- Contacting legal resource companies about developing specialized software, exclusive for Law Society member use!
The existing road map will be completed first, over the summer, followed by officially adopting these new plans into the road map, to be developed throughout the 2010 - 2011 school year... if I am elected!
